Wedding photography at game reserves and safari lodges across South Africa, the Greater Kruger, Welgevonden, the KZN North Coast, and beyond.
I'm a wedding photographer, and the African bush is where I most love to work. The light late in the afternoon is unlike anywhere else, low, warm, and directional, and there's a sense of space and quiet that changes how a whole day feels.
Safari weddings have been part of my work since 2008, and every reserve has its own character. The dense riverine thickets of the Kruger lowveld are nothing like the open grasslands of Welgevonden, or the coastal bush of the KZN North Coast.
Many safari weddings are just the two of you, or a very small group, and the day is relaxed and loosely shaped, closer to an extended engagement shoot with a short ceremony folded in. There's a rough plan, sunrise or sunset for the ceremony perhaps, but the timeline is more of a guideline than a rule, and we spend most of the time simply moving around the reserve and the lodge making pictures.
Other safari weddings are full weddings, sixty, seventy, eighty guests or more, and I treat those exactly as I would any other wedding, just with the bush as the backdrop. Expect a game drive worked into the day, canapés out in the veld, maybe a ceremony in a dry riverbed. I love both versions equally.
"Ben has a special talent for capturing moments in a unique way. Our wedding photos are stunning. He is so professional and went the extra mile for us."
I'd love to hear about it. Get in touch and tell me about your day.
